New Well Project
The New Well Project is funded through a grant from the Department of Water Resources, through the Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRMWP). The well will be located near the existing well behind the Mono City Fire Hall, and will fulfill requirements for a redundant water supply in Mono City.
The project is currently in the design phase and construction of the new well is anticipated for 2026.
Waterline Replacement Project - SUMMER/FALL 2025
The Waterline Replacement project is funded through the Department of Water Resources drought relief program, with the intent of replacing Mono City's aging and leaking water mains throughout the community.
The project has been contracted to Construction Specialty, Inc. of Lee Vining, CA.
Construction is expected to begin in late July 2025.
Phase 1 of the project will involve the placement of a new water main and fire hydrants throughout the entire community of Mono City. This is anticipated to occur from July 28 - September 19, 2025.
Phase 2 will involve the connection of individual water services to the new water main, and will occur between September 19, 2025 through the end of November 2025, as necessary.
During Phase 1, many driveway encroachments (the section of driveways that are within the County Right of Way) will be necessarily impacted, wherever the 6" water main crosses under them. These driveways will be replaced with gravel after the pipe is placed, and eventually repaired with whatever material is in place before the project (concrete, asphalt, or native material).
There are numerous locations where the new water main will cross below the roads in the community. When trenching is occuring in these areas, there will be traffic control that may impact residents entering or existing the community.
Many properties in Mono City have vegetation that was planted within (or has grown into) the right of way, and wherever that vegetation is above the new trench, it will necessarily be removed.
Some properties have landscaping (rocks, railroad ties, etc) features that are within the right of way, and where those features are within the trenching area, they will be removed and stockpiled on the adjacent property, to be dealt with by the property owner.
During Phase 2, residences will be contacted as their individual water services are connected to the new water main. This will result in temporary water service interruptions that are expected to last for one work day.
If you have any questions about the project, or how your property may be impacted, please review the construction plans, and/or call Tony Dublino at 760.648.3709.
